This may be the only time I would like for you to spam your site. So if you have a blog that you like to write on, post it here so I can check it out. I always like to find new things so have at it.
Maybe you will get a new reader or two.
How long you been on that design? Seems like 10 years now, when are you going to redesign? Don't tell me you don't have the itch to redesign the site after all this time iisbum.
It's only a couple of years, maybe 3 :P
But yes I've been itching to redesign and rebuild (lots of idea's for new features) but I just don't have the time to maintain what's there and rebuild :(
Hey Scrivs, I just started writing in my personal website over at DavidKorona.com.
By the way, I'm that guy from the Smashing Mag article comments who wished to write a follow up. The post will be out later today and I'll send it your way like you I'm going to refer to you but I realized I have no idea what your name is. What'll it be Scrivs?
Oh, very nice site David. My name is Paul Scrivens, but if you wish to stick with Scrivs I won't mind. Either one works as I am called by all names (even the bad ones) on the web.
Thanks for the kind words Scrivs, I appreciate it.
By the way the article has also just been completed and here it is!
@Scrivs: Thanks for checking it out and sorry about hijacking this thread (doh!). Continue linking those websites!
I have two blogs, Tales of a Designer, which hasn't gotten much attention lately, and my Tumblr site.
Not mine and not a blog. But a former co-worker and friend of mine: Douglas Hughmanick. I wrote the code and got it in WordPress, but the graphic design was by Doug.
This is such a great site. You can check out my blog at Pixelflips.com. Thanks for bringing real articles back the the website community!
I wouldn't say I brought them back as they were always there, just not getting the attention that they deserved. I do hope that I helped in bring awareness though. Nice site by the way.
@Scrivs - and you are humble on top of that! HA! Maybe you didn't bring them back but with articles like "Smashing Magazine Killed The Community (Or Maybe It Was Me)" you're sure pushing it in the right direction.
So again great site and thanks for the compliments!
Cheers
You would definitely be the first person in my life to call me humble. I feel as though I should buy you a Xmas present.
Digging the community aspect of this site. It's nice to see this thing online again.
You can find my soon-to-be-updated (aren't they all?) blog at http://www.ryanmerrill.net/
Thanks for the props, Scrivs.
You can checkout a preview of the upcoming design here: preview.
Any design suggestions/critiques/rips/whatever are more than welcomed. I've been designing this in my head/on paper/in CSS/HTML for awhile now and I'm beginning to feel a bit insulated.
After a quick glance I like it. My only gripe would be the movement of the top boxes, It's a cool feature, but with the 3 boxes being so close to the big box there is just too much movement (distractions) when I move my mouse. I'm trying to focus and if I accidentally move my mouse then a box moves causing me to focus on it.
I've got to say, I'd much prefer a set-up where users are given a profile/place to link themselves. Among my favorite parts of Hacker News were individual users' profiles, where I could follow a particularly cogent statement to the home of the person making it. (I'm also vain and enjoy expanding my tiny little empire post-by-post.)
My last redesign lasted all of a month. My new design of Rinich was intended to be shockingly minimal: only one word on the entire page is nonblack, and the layout is completely div-free.
There will be user profiles here shortly because everyone earns the right to showcase other parts of themselves on the web. No good to try and build a community if you can't get to know the people.
@procload: I'm going to echo what Scrivs said. Not only your three boxes but the black layer above that seem unessential. It's snazzy stuff, but if I'm looking for your portfolio it's not enough detail to impress me and if I'm looking for your blog all I see initially is clutter. The first word I see is "FEATURED" rather than your name, which isn't good; you have too many design ideas going on at once for it to cohere into a whole.
Take some of those ideas and save them for clients, so that those neat tricks show up in the portfolio. I love your blog design: Hope you've got some awesome content to go with that layout!
Thanks for the feedback, guys. It's nice being able to get feedback pre-launch. I'll take those ideas into consideration, notably trying to clean up the section above the blog. My initial thoughts were to put a focus on my work, but I think I have some new ideas where I can go.
I'm really itching to launch, so it's going to be a live work-in-progress, it'll be interesting to see where it progresses.
Thanks again.
Not so much a blog, although there is one on there is is barly updated. I just finished a redesign and I'd love some feedback :)
Cheers
I like the GET A QUOTE button, but it contrasts the buttons next to it poorly. It and the other top links come across as blurry. The arrow next to your header should have a dropdown come on the left, not the right, and I don't think that's the best way to show off your portfolio to begin with.
The biggest gripe I have is your grammar. Far too many commas. Particularly when you've got so much text on a site, ensuring that text is beautiful is killer. Writing is as much as design as visuals.
This is my site and its pretty awesome.
I maybe slightly biased but I still think its pretty awesome.
Step #1) Believe that your site is pretty awesome.
Step #2) Make it awesomer.
Step #3) Profit?
@twe4ked, simplify your footer or redesign it and add more spacing to accommodate all the content on it without freaking out your visitors. Your footer has blog links, twitter, external links, flickr, your sales pitch, copyright, credits, client login and subscription link. WOHA! It's a lot of content wrapped up in so less space. Agreed?
Here's my blog: is everything
Feel free to pass judgement on its bright yellow background!
Minimali.st is my blog. I'm still working on a design for it. I've done about three and none of them I'm really happy with, so I'm just using a theme for now.
Let me know if you find the content interesting though :-)
I have two... and they get updated from time to time... one of them is more like a place where I keep notes on some code or ideas that I developed for Wordpress.
Moiblog - My personal blog.
WP Kode - My Wordpress related blog.
Both are using the same theme right now... but I'm working on a very flexible theme that I use with clients that might make it into my personal blog in a few months.
This is my blog on design and its various philosophical underpinnings.
An outlet away from code and design to explore my other passion, surfing - Phoresia.org
Surfing seems to be one of the most peaceful activities in the world. Rare that you get to be one with nature while also picking up chicks.
Very nice blog. I write on my journey as an entrepreneur. Been doing it for over 2 years now. Looking to re-design my blog these days. Your latest article gave me a lot of thing about.
Well my blog can be found here, but shame it's still in beta.
I honestly thought that long list of dates was a serverside error of some sort (serving dates with no content). It's not obvious that you can click on them to reveal content at all.
Also, is the date/time really that important?
It seems like you've just seen what you can do with some JS you found rather than thought about what you should be doing. A lot of things are possible, it's finding what is worth doing that is the challenge.
Well, I've decided to start blogging at http://neography.com/ There's no content yet, but stay tuned, I'm going to try and write some interesting stuff soon.
Cheers all!
Updated the design of my blog based on some feedback from the Drawar forums. Check it out: http://www.ryanmerrill.net/.
Thanks for the help, guys.
I like it.
The purple text on the black background on the DESIGN/CODE/WRITING boxes is bad.
Not sure about the shadow used with the drop cap. Seems to just blur is slightly. Might work better if the drop cap is a darker shade of purple or black?
Hi, There are really nice blogs here (Inspiring Pixel and Ryan Merrill's are great).
I´m current writing as a hobby at http://designi1.com... and loved many websites as drawar articles... you already know this one http://www.trippingwords.com but i´ll list here anyway because that´s a place were i get nice readings as well!!

Just found this site, looks awesome so far! Just wanted to link to my blog...
Hey Scrivs,
I somehow haven't seen you around the interwebs until you dropped a comment over at Elite By Design. Thanks!
I am honestly digging this site, it's full of usefulness without the bloat of other sites.
You linked to my site a couple of days ago, which is actually how I found this place. I just started blogging again recently so it's not great yet but a start nonetheless.
You can find me at: devgrow.com
As for the others, my favorite so far has to be Cut & Taste!
Anyone blog on Blogger.com? What do you think about my blog on system tools?
Currently blogging here:
I think the iPad is going to fundamentally change the Internet and that designers will have plenty of new work. Prepare for our touchscreen future.
I think you've seen mine already, but I'm still in the process of re-working it. Although you might say the design process is slow, I would say it's slow and steady :D
@Monji:
As for the others, my favorite so far has to be Cut & Taste!
Woohoo. Thanks! The site has been getting a decent amount of linkage since its redesign.
Hi, my name is TonyP and I recently startedGrungeTime, a place for me to share my designs, textures and just about anything else related to graphics and typography. Feel free to stop by and grab some freebies every friday! Thanks!

I have started and write for http://ukre8.thevsproject.com
Is is a blog about Design.Art.Inspiration.Creativity.
Thanks for providing this topic Paul. I visited a few of these, commented, and subscribed. It really demonstrates the 'undertones' of the blogging community - there are many great bloggers that are magnificent at writing yet underneath the mainstream blogs, yet with more valuable content.
I run a web / graphic design blog here. I'm reworking it and widening my array of article topics, as well as applying a new layout that's nearly complete.
Cheers
drawar rocks! In the name of shameless self-promotion (and since you asked for it) here's Fresh TR
Well some fun self promotion, why not - I blog at www.kamikazemusic.com and after a much dragged out redesign there'll hopefully be more blogging at the day job at www.armitageonline.co.uk/blog
Long time reader, first time post (for shameless self-promotion no less!). Here goes:

Hmm, I think I borked the link tags. Just to reiterate, I would like to see more sites like drawar
Big fan of your articles and great content.
My new site is at bryanconnor.com and I write articles for freelancers, designers, and myself. Trying out the uniquely designed articles thing but just starting out subscribe for quality content yet to come.
Scrivs I'm really glad I found this place. I've been enjoying your fantastic articles for the past couple months.
I just 'finished' my portfolio site I built in Flash, and thought this was the best place to share it.

I'm still making improvements and will be adding some new work, but I'd really like to get it out there to receive public critique.
Thanks in advance!

hello,
My name is Guillaume. I work a French IT journalist and has been chronically passionate about web design. I like this place and visit it on a regular basis. In the past I used to go to 9rules.
I have a Tumblr at GuillaumeB.com and a Wordpress blog at GuillaumeB.com/fr.
It may be because i'm no professional but generally speaking i like simple websites. i hear about minimalistic design, yet the term really seems to be undefined nowdays (BTW a post on this would be nice Drawar)
There are few designers that I really do like. i've always been influenced by the work Phu Ly
I just recently launched a blog for web designers. Mainly it's a place for me to share inspiration, knowledge, ideas, and experiments with other web designers. You can find it at ShakenAndStirredWeb.com. You can also check out my portfolio if interested, SawyerHollenshead.com.
Thanks!

Mine is www.amberweinberg.com I'm undergoing a redesign to fit my app debs in, and to make it more readable. Should be coming out in the next couple of weeks *I hope*
Very interesting site Amber, the line numbers on the left are a nice touch. You weren't at Drupal Con 2010 in Nashville were you? I've seen some of your articles around and saw you live in the area.
What happens when you mix "artist" and "designer" together, both at an intermediate level?
You get my website.
It's been up since the beginning of September and is due for a re-alignment. I haven't gotten around to sync it up with what I do currently. Feedback will be greatly appreciated!
And no, I don't have an RSS icon. No time to draw one :P
My portfolio blog is at LK Illustration.com I have a few pieces in my portfolio section, but it's still pretty new.

Just began writing 'for myself' this month after years of writing for other folks. Please drop by and let me know what you think. Thanks!
I'm starting to write once every other week but I share articles that I find interesting daily.
I have a blog that I use to play around on and write about whatever interests me. I try my best to categorize the posts so that it doesn't become too scattered.
And if you are interested in just the web/design related posts.
Wrote a blog post that may interest people here. I'd like to know what people think of CSS abstraction (or CSS compilers, meta-frameworks or whatever you want to call them).
Does anyone really love CSS, and are these languages and things just for programmers like some designers claim?
Well, I don't write blog, but I do have my own page with writting posts on. The problem is the site is in slovenian language and it's about books, not about designing or programming.
I love to read blogs about designing and programming but I don't feel like writting one. The main reason is that I don't want to spread my knowledge to others, because it took me a really long time to learn what I know and I won't just tell this to someone right a way. The second reason is that I had a page with tutorials once upon a time and I closed it. With this step I closed all doors of me teaching the others stuff about designing and programming.
I posted this with only one reason, I just want you to check the design and comment it...To see where am I :)

Decided to get my personal site live yesterday. It still is far from finished, so bear with me for the time being...
I've been blogging since the start of the year about my favourite designers, photographers, buildings, found type and generally anything of a graphical typographic nature that takes my fancy.
I have my blog, which doesn't get updated very often; my tumblr, which is mainly just stuff I find online; and a film quiz which I try to update as often as possible.
I blog about design, business, and life on my personal blog at MichaelAleo.com.
Some posts of note:
I created a blog at blog.staydecent.ca.
I'm lacking posts because I am internally debating fully enjoying an experience or soiling that experience by sharing it: Sharing requires extra thought and lessens my focus on an actual experience.
Maybe, I'll stop being selfish and share something tho =D
(Note: underlines only look good in webkit, HA!)
I blog at Van SEO Design. Lately it's been a lot of posts about design principles. You probably know them if you went to school, but I didn't so as I learn about them I write about them and hopefully help someone else in my situation.
I used to blog more about seo and marketing and guess I still will on occasion. I also try to mix in some development posts.
I'm going to close this thread since you can find out a member's site and twitter via their profile page and I feel this thread will only serve for people to post here and no where else just to get a link back. If you want traffic then contribute to the community and it will start to flow back your way.
